The End of Summer

The end of summer came on quickly! We tried to squeeze a few activities in before we both headed back to  work.  Jarrett really loves riding in his wagon (so much so that he cries when we stop), so we have been trying to find places to take it. We stopped for a short walk at Oregon Ridge, but some fallen trees on the path shortened our already short ride.

We also ended the summer with some crabs with the family for Jamal's birthday. Jarrett didn't try any crabs though as they were quite spicy (and delicious). Everyone took a turn pulling him around the yard in the wagon too!

We spent some time in our yard playing in the water table. He loves this even more now that he can stand well and move around.

The picture below was of our last NCR walk before I went back to work. Every day during the summer we walked early in the morning to start our day. I was pretty sad to lose this routine.

Jarrett has been enjoying his books more and more. He seems to especially love books with pictures of dogs. He loves the one below and we also had to buy him, "Sleep Puppy" which we checked out of the library. He did not want to return it and read it every night, so we decided he needed a copy. On the last page the words say, "zzzzzzzzzzzzzzz" which he now says when you turn to the last page. He also loves books that have some sort of sensory item on the page like fur. He likes to take our fingers and make us feel it too.

I don't know if you noticed- but he is carrying a drumstick in half these pictures. We had to wrestle it from him and hide them as he wouldn't put them down for about a week and we were afraid he was going to injure himself.

We also walked around downtown one day and checked out the boats. It was a bit sunny, and we forgot his hat. Oops!

Finally, what would the end of summer be without a trip to the zoo. Or two! Jamal took him on Friday and then we went again on the weekend. It's a great place to just walk around for an hour or so. Jarrett loves the animals!

Today we went apple picking for Honey Crisp apples at Brown's Orchards in PA. It was great and of course Jarrett loved riding in his wagon. He even managed to enjoy an apple with only 2 teeth!

Jarrett has lots of new words and tricks, but I'll fill you in during the next post.
