Jarrett & June: 14 Months and a trip the the ER

Jarrett turned 14 months old last week. We finally hung up his growth ruler I made. Looks like he's about 25 inches tall. And thanks to an unexpected trip the the ER, we also know he weighs 24 pounds.

At 14 months, Jarrett crawls, stands and cruises around, climbs up the stairs and onto the furniture, but isn't walking on his own. He will walk if you hold his hands and seems interested in walking but hasn't quite figured it out yet. We did take a trip to stride rite and finally got him fitted for some shoes. Although- they don't last too long before he pulls them off.

He likes opening and closing things and pressing any sort of button or switch he can find. His favorites at the moment are to the speaker and to the sound machine in his room. He says, "Hi" to just about everyone we pass and often tries to reach out touch them. This has caused some startling encounters in the grocery store and the mall. He tries out lots of new words and repeating sounds that we make. We realized he is saying, "Thank you" to us when we hand him things, though it is hard to decipher the actual words. He continues to point out "balls" and "cars" whenever he sees them. He has picked up, "go" and "no" as well. He also continues to throw things and say, "Uh oh" loud and clear. "Mama" and "Dadda" and "Daddy" are pretty standard, and he also tries out, "Jodi" every now and then.

He still enjoys his sleep, getting 12 hours of rest a night. We failed at trying to push his bedtime back during the week in hopes of spending more time with him. He just becomes a whiny mess, so 5:45/6:00 it is.

Like I said earlier, we had an unexpected visit to the ER a week and half ago. I picked him up from daycare and he had sort of a seal-ish cough. It was one of those really hot, terrible air quality days, so I hoped that once he was in the air conditioning it would clear up. After a few times waking up shortly after I put him to bed, it started to sound like he was struggling to get air so I decided to take him to patient first, hoping they could check his lungs real quick, give him a nebulizer treatment and send us on our way. Jamal met us at Patient First on his way home from work. Unfortunately, they checked his oxygen levels and sent us directly to the ER. We spent the night there and Jarrett had a breathing treatment and some meds. He didn't want to sleep while we were there at all. He was far too interested in all the people and buttons and noise. Needless to say, it was a long, sleepless night so we both took off the next day and stayed home with our little man.

He was home with Jamal on Friday and was starting to feel a bit better on the weekend so we took him out to see the big trucks at the zoo for an hour. He wasn't overally impressed at first, but perked up when he got the drive the bus and tractor.

This weekend we took Jarrett to Family Farm Day at Baltimore County Agriculture Center. It was great. They had animals to check out, hayrides, music, vendors, food trucks, sheep shearing, dog herding demos, plus a whole kids area with games, tractor rides, pony rides, pumpkin painting, corn pits, hay maze, face painting and a cool water table thing.
