I write today's post with a heavy heart. Jarrett's beloved grandmother, Momma Jackie, fell ill suddenly, and passed away on Thursday evening, September 25, 2014.
Since we began this blog as a way to keep track of important milestones in Jarrett's life and a means to not only share them with our friends and family, but also as a memory keeper for Jarrett that we hope he can look back on and see how much he was loved. Jamal and I have broken hearts as we think about our son not having the opportunity to spend more time with his grandmother. As he grows up we want him to know how excited Momma Jackie was to have him in her life. We want Jarrett to remember the times that he was able to spend with her.
Jarrett, Momma Jackie showered you with love and gifts before you were ever born. She held a beautiful shower for us to celebrate your birth. She arrived at the hospital minutes after you were born. She visited you, Jarrett, every week (usually more!) She picked you up and snuggled you close the minute she walked in. When you were really small, you snuggled in and would nap in her arms for hours. She would rock you and tell you what pretty eyes you have and laugh when you stuck out your pouty bottom lip. She told you how your father made the same sad face. As you began to grow, and become more alert, she sang you songs and read you stories. Each time she came, she read "I Love You as Much". She told you the sounds that the animals made and made you smile. When you grew sleepy, she'd bounce you in your chair for as long as it took for you to drift off to sleep. The last time she spent with you she wasn't feeling well, but came to help Poppa Jacques take care of you. I wish she got to hold you and snuggle you that day, but I know she was happy to just be here with you.
Momma Jackie was looking forward to taking you to the library and hanging out with you while Mommy and Daddy were at work. She showed off your pictures to her friends and the family. She was so excited to be your grandmother. Jarrett, we promise to always tell you stories about Momma Jackie and help you to know her and remember her. We know she is looking down on you and watching you grow. But most of all, we want you to remember that she loved you.
